May 5, New activities of EMODnet Chemistry project coordinated by OGS.

EMODnet (European Marine Observation and Data Network) is a long-term initiative of the European Commission, Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), and represents one of the pillars of the Marine Knowledge 2020 strategy. Started in 2009 with a limited number of partners, EMODnet Chemistry now involves a network of 45 marine research and monitoring institutes and oceanographic data management experts. The main goals of EMODnet Chemistry concern the collection and storage of chemical oceanographic data for all European seas and the production of synthesis products useful for the assessment and management of the marine environment, also in support of the main European directives. The new phase of the project pays particular attention to the issue of marine litter and will lead to the creation of a European database for the management of information on beach and marine litter (http://www.emodnet-chemistry.eu/)

The third phase of EMODnet Chemistry started on March 6.
